Spring Forward with The Garmin Edge 605 or 705

Here is a new item from Garmin, the Garmin Edge 605 and 705. The Garmin’s new Edge 605 and 705 are now shipping to dealers, so cyclists wanting the latest in bike computer technology will soon have it. Both come with mapping and color displays. The 705 takes it further with ANT+Sport wireless technology, which means it can pair with heart rate, cadence sensor and even compatible power meters. The beauty of ANT+Sport wireless technology is something we call “interoperability.” For you, that basically means a device like Edge plays nicely with compatible devices like sensors and software. You just pair the devices through a simple menu operation and they “find” each other. No worries on picking up data from another cyclist’s heart rate monitor or power meter, as long as you’re not near other sensors when you do the initial pairing. The Garmin Edge 605 and 705 - coming soon to a bike shop near you!

The Garmin Edge 605

Add maps and find motivation with Edge 605. This GPS-enabled cycle computer comes loaded with everything you need to make the most out of your ride. Get cycle computer data and mapping detail, all from one compact, easy-to-use device. You can even store, analyze and share your stats for the world to see with Garmin’s online training community. With a color display and ultra-cool training features, Edge 605 has it all.

Navigate Your Ride

Lose yourself in the ride without losing your way. Edge 605 comes with a built-in basemap, plus it has a microSD card slot for adding map detail and storing workouts, courses and saved rides. Just plug in optional, detailed MapSource® City Navigator® street maps on a preloaded data card and get turn-by-turn directions on a sunlight-readable, color display as you pedal. Add optional topo mapping for your off-road adventures. Edge snaps easily into the included bike mount to guide you to your destination.

nüvi 750 comes ready to go right out of the box with preloaded City Navigator® NT street maps and millions of points of interest (POIs) such as hotels, restaurants, fuel stations, ATMs and more. Simply touch the color screen to enter a destination, and nüvi takes you there with 2D or 3D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions. It even announces the name of exits and streets so you never have to take your eyes off the road. In addition, nüvi 750 accepts custom points of interest, such as school zones and safety cameras and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs. The European version even includes a preloaded safety camera database containing locations of cameras for parts of Europe.

Where Am I?

Keep track of yourself and your car with nüvi 750. Just tap "Where Am I?" to find the closest hospitals, police stations, fuel stations, nearest address and intersection. Also see your exact latitude and longitude coordinates. nüvi 750 even remembers where you parked. Perfect for unfamiliar spots and crowded lots such as amusement parks, stadiums and malls.

Plan Ahead

nüvi 750 includes advanced navigational features to take the worry out of traveling. With route planning you can save 10 routes, specify via points and preview simulated turns on the 750's wide screen. In addition, nüvi 750 automatically sorts multiple destinations to provide an efficient route for errands, deliveries or sales calls. It also displays speed limits for highways and Interstates. A trip log provides an electronic bread crumb trail of up to 10,000 points, so you can see where you've been on the map.

Take It With You

nüvi 750's high-sensitivity internal (non flip-up) antenna gives it a sleeker, thinner design than the nüvi 600-series, making it easy to slip in your pocket or purse. Its rechargeable lithium-ion battery makes it convenient for navigation by car or on foot.

Super Tuesday: An Eco-friendly Reminder

The 2008 presidential candidates are scurrying to woo the last remaining undecided voters tonight as 24 states prepare for Super Tuesday, the nation’s largest primary. After a full year of campaigns, commercials, and endless debates over Iraq, health care, and, yes, the environment, it’s finally come down to four republican and two major democratic candidates. The Grand Ol’ Party’s John McCain is in the lead, with Mitt Romney nipping at his heels. Mike Huckabee, even with the mighty Chuck Norris on his side, is placing a distant bronze, and Ron Paul is hardly on the charts. It’s an even closer race on the democratic side, with Hillary Clinton barely inching ahead of Barack Obama.

Magellan Triton 200

Magellan rushed out their Triton line scrambling to get this out before Christmas of 2007 but it looks like they forgot to do enough testing with the interface before releasing. Thought to be a winner with a GPS unit that could finally download USGS topo maps. This was accomplished last year with "DeLorme" but was out of average price range and the interface was not that friendly. With the Triton, this was supposed to be the breakthrough moment with the ability to download the very popular National Geographic Topo maps. The error in rushing out products, for the Triton, is the Topo interface does not work but we are impressed with the the fast and easy scroll and zoom features of the map.

My opinion is to wait until Magellan and Topo figure this one out and then purchase. If you have already maybe time to send it back until then.
